D-backs Race Against Cancer

The 2nd Annual D-backs Race Against Cancer presented by the University of Arizona Cancer Center at St. Joseph's Hospital will be on Saturday, May 3, 2014. Top finishers in various age categories will be recognized during a special pre-game ceremony during a D-backs 2014 home game at Chase Field. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation and will be distributed to Arizona non-profits that provide screening, treatment and support for those dealing with cancer.

 REGISTRATION
  • 5K Run Registration: $40 for all ages until April 24 ($50 after April 24)
    Includes a tech shirt, drawstring bag, finisher medal and voucher for a game ticket to a select 2014 Arizona Diamondbacks home game.
  • 1 Mile Banana Boat Family Fun Walk Registration: $20 until April 24 ($30 after April 24)
    Includes a cotton t-shirt, drawstring bag, finisher medal and voucher for a game ticket to a select 2014 Arizona Diamondbacks home game.
  • Children 12 & Under may participate in the 1 Mile Banana Boat Family Fun Walk for $5
    Includes a youth cotton t-shirt, drawstring bag and finisher medal.
    • Children's entries in the 1 Mile Banana Boat Family Fun Walk do not include a D-backs game ticket. Additional game tickets will be available for purchase.
  • All participants must be registration by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 2
  • All participants must be pre-registered. THERE IS NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION.
  • All participants must wear their assigned bib numbers during the event.
  • Team registration is welcomed.
  • There are limited registration spaces available.

Registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. You may not give your number to anyone else.

 PACKET PICK-UP
  • Mail: You may have your race packet and bib mailed to you for $15 if you register before April 15.

D-backs Race Against Cancer race packets and shirts can be picked up during the following times:

Chase Field - Gate E
  • Thursday, May 1 - 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
  • Friday, May 2 - 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Located inside the Chase Field Main Gate (next to the ticket windows and Team Shop).

Race Day

There will be a registration tent located on 4th Street. 5K Run packets can be picked up from 6:00-7:00 a.m. and Banana Boat 1 Mile Fun Walk packets can be picked up from 8:00-9:00 a.m.

 COURSE RULES & REGULATIONS
  • We welcome wheelchairs, strollers & wagons.
  • Only registered participants are allowed on the run or walk courses.
  • No roller blades, skateboards or motorized devices are allowed on the run or walk courses.
  • No pets are permitted on the run or walk courses.
  • Event will occur rain or shine. All registration fees are non-refundable
 DIRECTIONS & PARKING

PLEASE PLAN FOR HEAVY TRAFFIC. There will be over 8,000 runners, volunteers and spectators in attendance on race day, which can lead to congestion on roads and at parking garages and lots. For this reason, we recommend leaving your house early and carpooling. Carpooling is highly encouraged as is the use of the Metro Light Rail.

5K recommended arrival time is 6:00 a.m.

1 Mile Banana Boat Family Fun Walk recommended arrive time is 7:30 a.m.

 POST-RACE

Runners and walkers will have access to an interactive Wellness Zone, complete with D-backs partners and non-profit organizations that will provide the latest information on nutrition, exercise and cancer screening.

 AWARDS & PROCEEDS
Awards

All participants who cross the finish line will receive a commemorative medal at the finish line.

Prizes will be awarded during a special pre-game ceremony prior to the Nationals vs. D-backs game at Chase Field on May 13 to the top three finishers in each of the following age categories for the 5K Run:

  • 12 & Under
  • 13-15
  • 16-19
  • 20-29
  • 30-39
  • 40-49
  • 50-59
  • 60-69
  • 70+

The overall top male finisher and top female finisher for the 5K Run will have the opportunity to throw out a ceremonial first pitch prior to the Nationals vs. D-backs game at Chase Field on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. The first pitch date is non-negotiable. If the overall top male finisher or overall top female finisher for the 5K race are not available on May 13, the participant with the next best time will be given the opportunity.

Proceeds

All proceeds from the D-backs Race Against Cancer will benefit the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation and will be earmarked for programs and non-profits that provide screening, treatment and support for those dealing with cancer.
