Pirates announce 2009 broadcast schedules

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced today the complete broadcast schedule for the 2009 season. FSN Pittsburgh, the exclusive rights holder for Pirates regional telecasts, will air 125 regular season and two spring training games. The Pirates flagship radio station WPGB FM NewsTalk 104.7 will air all 162 regular season games, as well as 16 Spring Training games beginning with the Grapefruit League opener when the Pirates host the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday, February 25 at 1:00 p.m.

FSN has already begun its six weeks of daily reports from Spring Training. The first televised game will be on Monday, March 16, with coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m. with a special pre-game edition of Savran on SportsBeat from McKechnie Field before the Pirates host the Tampa Bay Rays at 7:00 p.m. The contest between the Pirates and Cincinnati Reds in Sarasota, Florida will also be televised live on FSN on Saturday, March 21 at 1:00 p.m.

"We are very excited that FSN has put together a broadcast schedule that once again will air more than 75 percent of all Pirates games in 2009, to complement WPGB's full schedule," said Pirates President Frank Coonelly. "We look forward to getting the Grapefruit League schedule underway and continuing with the building of a championship-caliber organization."

FSN will lead off its regular season television schedule on Opening Day as the Pirates begin the 2009 season against the St. Louis Cardinals from Busch Stadium on Monday, April 6. Pre-game begins at 3:30 p.m. Coverage of the Pirates Home Opener against the Houston Astros is set for Monday, April 13 at 12:30 p.m. from PNC Park.

"Our partnership with the Pirates is very important to FSN and we look with excitement to the 2009 season," said Ted Black, Senior Vice President/General Manager, FSN Pittsburgh. "Fans throughout the region continue to show great passion for Pirates baseball and our telecast schedule of 125 games plus spring training and Pirates programming will serve those fans well."

Throughout the season, FSN will feature LIVE pre and post-game shows for all 125 games, plus Inside Pirates Baseball and Pirates-related In My Own Words, Spotlight and Under the Lights programming.

Leading into the Pirates radio broadcasts on FM NewsTalk 104.7 will be Ellis Cannon Live and Pirates Extra Innings with Rocco DeMaro will follow the Pirates post-game show after every game. FM NewsTalk 104.7 will also continue to broadcast the Neal Huntington Show one hour prior to every Sunday game throughout the season.

Greg Brown, new Pirates broadcaster Tim Neverett, Steve Blass, Bob Walk and John Wehner will call the action in 2009. Brown and Neverett will handle the play-by-play duties while Blass, Walk and Wehner serve as color analysts.
