Pirates Agree To Terms With Donnie Veal On Minor League Contract 12/15/2010 5:05 PM ETBy pit - veal / MLB.com
The Pittsburgh Pirates today agreed to terms with left-handed pitcher Donnie Veal on a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training. Veal went 3-2 with a 4.35 ERA (49.2ip/24er) and 41 strikeouts in nine starts this year for Triple-A Indianapolis before having season-ending "Tommy John" surgery on June 4. The 26-year-old Veal was selected by the Pirates off the Chicago Cubs' Triple-A Iowa roster in the Rule Five Draft on December 11, 2008. He made a total of 19 relief appearances in 2009 with Pittsburgh, going 1-0 with a 7.16 ERA (16.1ip/13er). The Pirates now have a total of seven non-roster invitees for Spring Training.
