Marlins History

2003 Champs Jack McKeon is carried off after an improbable World Series win.
2003 World Series Champs
Improbable. Gutsy. Magical. Led by then-72-year-old manager Jack McKeon, the 2003 Florida Marlins shocked the world by defeating the New York Yankees four games to two. A staff of Josh Beckett, A.J. Burnett, Dontrelle Willis and Carl Pavano, mixed with the veteran leadership of Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez, Mike Lowell and Jeff Conine, led the way as the Florida Marlins defeated the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs and Yankees en route to franchise's second world championship.

In one of the greatest endings in World Series history, the Florida Marlins defeated the Cleveland Indians four games to three, winning the decisive Game 7 on a walk-off single by Edgar Renteria to score Craig Counsell. The Marlins became the first wild card team to ever win the Series, in only their fifth season.
