Hope Week 2015: July 6-12

Minnesota Twins Hope Week 2015

The Minnesota Twins players and front office staff will take part in the organization's fifth annual Hope Week, an entire week dedicated to giving back to the community. During each day of Hope Week, different Twins players will lead groups of teammates in participating in various volunteer activities. Check back here for events as they are scheduled.

Sunday, July 12 - Trevor Plouffe and teammates played catch with veterans and their families during the Twins' final Hope Week event of 2015.




Saturday, July 11 - Torii Hunter and Sports Authority host kids from Mary's Place as part of Twins Hope Week.




Friday, July 10 - The Twins hosted their annual Field Day for the Kids during Twins Hope Week




Thursday, July 9 - Led by Glen Perkins, Twins players take kids fishing at Lake Harriet in Minneapolis, accompanied by a professional angler to help teach the children how to fish.




Wednesday, July 8 - Brian Dozier hosted a Miracle League Clinic at Target Field. Dozier and teammates put on a mini-clinic for kids from the Miracle League to help them play baseball.




Tuesday, July 7 - Joe Mauer hosts kids from Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare for a picnic at Target Field on Day 2 of Twins Hope Week.




Monday, July 6 - The Twins staff kicks off Hope Week by building dressers at Target Field to benefit Bridging. Bridging is a furniture bank that works to bridge the gap between those in need and those who have excess. Volunteers constructed fifty dressers which will go to families transitioning out of homelessness.

Sunday, May 18 - Led by Twins manager Ron Gardenhire, 25 military service members will be invited to play catch with their kids on the field pregame at Target Field. They will also be provided tickets to stay and watch the Twins take on the Mariners starting at 1:10 p.m.

Sunday, May 18 - Roy Smalley, current and alumni Twins players, and other local sports celebrities will work as celebrity waiters at Capital Grille (801 Hennepin Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55402) to raise funds for the Boys and Girls Clubs.

Saturday, May 17 - Twins players will lead "Field Day for the Kids" at Target Field for children from People Serving People, CommonBond, and Mary's Place. The children will be invited on the field to interact with all of the Twins players and coaches at various baseball activity stations.

Saturday, May 17 (Postgame) - Twins players' wives will stuff toy-filled birthday gift bags for Cheerful Givers. The bags will later be dropped off at food shelves and home shelters to allow parents living in poverty to give their children a birthday gift.

Friday, May 16 - Twins Front Office staff go green as they work with Great River Greening to plant trees at the Trout Brook Nature Sanctuary.

The tree planting is part of the All-Star legacy project aimed to transform the preserve into a nature sanctuary complete with prairie, savanna, maple-basswood forest and a storm water management system of filtration ponds and wetlands, as well as expand the trail to create an 18-mile uninterrupted path through nature. Pohlad Companies employee-volunteers will do the bulk of the reforestation work.

Wednesday, May 14 - Joe Mauer hosted "Picnic in the Park." Twins players and staff enjoyed a Papa John's pizza picnic lunch with patients from Gillette Children's Hospital at Target Field in the Legends Club.

Tuesday, May 13 - Led by Glen Perkins, Twins players took kids from the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities and Hope Kids to Lake Harriet in Minneapolis (at the Bandshell) to go fishing. They were accompanied by a professional fisherman who will help teach the children how to fish. They then gathered for a picnic lunch provided by Subway.

HOPE WEEK 2013

Monday, June 10 - Twins' radio home FM 96.3 K-TWIN hosted a scramble golf tournament at Chomonix Golf Course. The tournament will benefitted Spare Key, a Minnesota based non-profit that is focused on helping parents remain a part of seriously ill or critically injured child's care team in the hospital.

Twins Front Office Staff visited Feed My Starving Children to prepare food for shipment to developing nations.

Tuesday, June 11 - Participants in the Minnesota Twins Reviving Baseball in the Inner Cities (RBI) Program visited Target Fieldto watch Twins batting practice and meet players. They will stay to watch that night's game against the Phillies.

Wednesday, June 12 - Joe Mauer hosted a "Picnic in the Park." Twins players and staff met patients from Gillette Children's Hospital at Target Field for a picnic in the Delta Sky360° Legends Club.
