This Day in Baseball History:
September 18, 1996 > Roger Clemens of the Boston Red Sox ties his own Major League record by striking out 20 batters in a single game. The 20 whiffs cap a brilliant performance in which "The Rocket" shuts out the Detroit Tigers, 4-0, on four hits. Clemens originally set the record against the Seattle Mariners back in April of 1986.
