For the first time since 1998, the four Division Series were wrapped up in fewer than five games. The Cardinals were the final team in, ousting the Padres in four. The Tigers finished the Yankees in four games as well, while the Mets and A's swept their way into the LCS.

The Athletics made it a clean sweep in the American League Division Series, getting four RBIs from Marco Scutaro plus homers from Eric Chavez and Milton Bradley to defeat the Twins, 8-3. Oakland snapped its nine-game streak of losses in ALDS elimination games.
