Red Sox at the plate: Dustin Pedroia saw only two pitches on Sunday before knocking a a pitch from Pirates starter Tom Gorzelanny well over the left-field wall for his first homer of the spring. Chris Carter drove in Boston's second run with a sixth-inning sacrifice fly. Designated hitter Julio Lugo and shortstop Alex Cora finished with two hits apiece. Joe Thurston hit an eighth-inning homer for the Sox.

Pirates at the plate: For the fifth straight game, the Pirates were unable to score off the opposing starter. But the club wasn't held scoreless for the entire afternoon. Adam LaRoche went 2-for-2 with two doubles on the day, while Ryan Doumit drove in the team's first two runs with a sixth-inning single. Freddy Sanchez knocked a bases-clearing double in the seventh.

Red Sox on the mound: For the fourth time in his five spring appearances, Kyle Snyder made a scoreless appearance for the club. In what was his second Grapefruit League start, Snyder pitched three innings, allowing just two baserunners while striking out two. Hideki Okajima followed with two scoreless innings of relief before Mike Timlin was tagged for two runs on three hits in his one frame.

Pirates on the mound: After pitching just 2 1/3 innings so far this spring, Gorzelanny threw four innings in seemingly effortless form. Pedroia's home run was the only run Gorzelanny allowed on the afternoon and one of just three hits the Red Sox had off him. Masumi Kuwata pitched his fourth straight scoreless inning of Spring Training, and Byung-Hyun Kim bounced back from a rough outing with a scoreless frame of his own.

Grapefruit League records: Red Sox 7-9-2, Pirates 6-12.

Up next for the Red Sox: The Red Sox will play their only contest against the Yankees on Monday, when they face the Bronx Bombers at 1:15 p.m. ET. Bartolo Colon, signed to a Minor League contract in February, will make his second start and go three innings. Jason Varitek, J.D. Drew and Mike Lowell are among the regulars who will make the trip for Boston. Veteran lefty Andy Pettitte will start for the Yankees.

Up next for the Pirates: The Pirates and Blue Jays will face each other for the third time in less than a week, as Pittsburgh hosts Toronto at 1:05 p.m. ET at McKechnie Field on Monday. The St. Patrick's Day contest will feature a matchup of Pirates left-hander Zach Duke and Blue Jays right-hander A.J. Burnett.

Duke is slated to pitch five innings and is scheduled to be relieved by Sean Burnett, Evan Meek and Franquelis Osoria. Additionally, in order to celebrate Monday's Irish holiday, the Pirates will be wearing green hats.
