PITTSBURGH -- Robbie Grossman, the Pirates sixth-round pick in the June Major League First-Year Player Draft, was in for a visit and a workout at PNC Park on Saturday night.

Grossman, an outfielder out of Cypress-Fairbanks (Texas) HS, was a High School All-American who batted .415 with four home runs and 19 RBIs in 2007, leading his team to a state championship. His numbers fell off a little in 2008, but he accepted a scholarship to play at the University of Texas.

"I'm here for tonight," Grossman said. "I came to watch the game and I'll leave on Sunday morning."

Indications immediately after the Draft were that Grossman was going to honor his commitment to Texas, but the situation has changed as the Aug. 15 deadline for signing Draft picks approaches.

"It's 50-50 right now -- it's just an ongoing process up until the deadline, and we'll see what happens," Grossman explained. "I just came up here and met some of the people and met some of the players and had fun hitting in this beautiful ballpark."

Grossman views his situation as a win-win situation. He has options.

"I'm just happy that I've gotten to this position," Grossman stated. "I can either go to UT or become a Pirate, and I'm just happy with the position I'm in."
