Doumit joins club following wrist surgery
Catcher is expected to be out of lineup 8-to-10 weeks
MILWAUKEE -- The Pirates might be without their starting catcher for a couple months, but his presence will still be felt in the clubhouse.
Catcher Ryan Doumit returned to the team on Monday, just four days after undergoing surgery on his right wrist, fulfilling his promise to rejoin his teammates as quickly as possible. Doumit is expected to be out of the lineup for the next 8-to-10 weeks.
"He's happy to be back," Pittsburgh manager John Russell said. "He said he felt good."
Doumit suffered the injury on a swing at the plate on April 19 against Atlanta. He underwent surgery on Thursday in Pittsburgh to repair a fractured scaphoid bone and met up with the team in Milwaukee.
Doumit will be re-examined in approximately four weeks.
"He's not going to be able to do much until they can take another X-ray and see how quickly it's healed," Russell said. "Once we get that determined we can start to put together his rehab."
