Doumit Bucs' Heart and Hustle nominee
Major League winner to be announced at November dinner
PITTSBURGH -- Pirates catcher Ryan Doumit has been named a finalist for the Heart and Hustle Award, which is handed out by the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association.
An annual award since 2005, it is presented to an active player who demonstrates a passion for baseball and best embodies the values, spirit and traditions of the game.
There are 30 finalists, one nominated by each club, for the award. A winner will be determined through votes from Major League alumni and will be announced at the Legends for Youth Dinner on Nov. 6 in New York.
The 2008 Heart and Hustle Award was given to the Indians' Grady Sizemore. David Eckstein (2005) and Craig Biggio (2006 and '07) round out the list of past recipients.
