ARLINGTON -- The Pittsburgh Pirates have asked for and received permission to interview Clint Hurdle for their managerial vacancy, according to industry sources.The Pirates have been looking for a manager to replace John Russell, who was let go at the end of the season. They finished with a record of 57-105, the worst in the Major Leagues. Hurdle was the Rockies' manager from 2002-09, with a record of 534-625. He guided the club to the 2007 World Series against the Red Sox before losing in four games. Hurdle is in his first year as the Rangers' hitting coach. The Pirates have been waiting for the Rangers' season to end, and it did so on Monday in a 3-1 loss to the Giants in Game 5 of the World Series.
