Glasnow, Pimentel toss zeros in Class A victory
Pirates pitching prospects hurl seven shutout innings for Bradenton
Right-handers Tyler Glasnow and Stolmy Pimentel, the Pirates' Nos. 3 and 16 prospects, combined for seven scoreless innings Monday and Class A Advanced Bradenton defeated Clearwater, 5-0.
Glasnow, ranked No. 23 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, started the game and threw five shutout innings. He struck out four batters, walked four and allowed two hits. He hasn't allowed a run in 12 2/3 innings, a streak that dates back to May 22.
Since beginning this season in extended spring training due to a back injury, Glasnow has made eight starts and is 2-3 with a 2.15 ERA. He has struck out 41 batters and walked 26 in 37 2/3 innings.
As scheduled, Pimentel relieved Glasnow and threw two innings. He is beginning a rehab assignment as he recovers from shoulder inflammation that landed him on the Major League disabled list May 2. He struck out two batters, walked one and did not allow a hit in his first game action in a month.
Right fielder Josh Bell, the Pirates' No. 6 prospect and No. 62 overall, led the Marauders offense. He went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and an RBI in the victory.
In 53 games this season, Bell is hitting .308 with an .820 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage).
