The Pittsburgh Pirates announced plans today for Major League Baseball's Roberto Clemente Night on Wednesday, September 22 at PNC Park. The Pirates will play the Chicago Cubs at 7:05 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. September 22 has been designated the 2004 Roberto Clemente Day throughout Major League Baseball to coincide with Hispanic Heritage Month.

At PNC Park on September 22, all fans will receive a scratch-off ticket as they enter the ballpark's gates. With that ticket, EVERY fan will be a winner of a special item honoring Roberto Clemente. Another lucky fan will be the winner of an authenticated Roberto Clemente autographed baseball. Prizes can be claimed throughout the night.

In addition, the Pirates and Major League Baseball will announce the Pirates recipient of the 2004 Roberto Clemente Award presented by John Hancock. The Pirates recipient will be one of the 30 nominees for the national 2004 Roberto Clemente Award. The National recipient of the 2004 Roberto Clemente Award will be announced during the 2004 World Series.

Major League Baseball established a national Roberto Clemente Day in 2002 to increase awareness of the Roberto Clemente Award and to officially recognize local club recipients, particularly their efforts toward their community and charitable endeavors.
