The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced they have hired Trevor Gooby as their Director of Florida Operations. The announcement was made by Pirates Senior Vice President and General Manager Dave Littlefield.

The 28-year-old Gooby replaces Mike Kennedy, 29, who served the club in the same capacity since July of 1999.

Gooby, a native of Ipswich, MA, has spent the last two years working as the General Manager of the Vero Beach Dodgers in Vero Beach, FL. He began his association with the Vero Beach club in December of 1998 after working in the Publicity department of the Dodgers in Los Angeles during the 1998 season.

In his role as the General Manager at Vero Beach, Gooby oversaw the baseball operations at Dodgertown. In addition, he ran the daily operations for the Vero Beach Dodgers, oversaw the marketing, advertising, group sales, publicity and stadium operations as well as producing the Los Angeles Dodgers' Spring Training program.

Gooby is scheduled to begin working for the Pirates on January 3, 2005.
