WHAT: The Pittsburgh Pirates announced today that the organization will host the first ever Pup-Night at PNC Park on Tuesday, August 29, when the Pirates take on the Chicago Cubs at 7:05 p.m. The event is sponsored by Del Monte's Pup-Peroni® brand of dog snacks and will benefit the Pittsburgh-based Animal Friends organization.

PREGAME: Pup-Night at PNC Park will feature Pup-Rally, a collection of pup-friendly pregame activities on Federal Street, including:

• Pup-trick auditions for a chance to win a trip to New York City and appear in the CBS Late Show's Stupid Pet Tricks segment.

• A pup-obstacle course and a "hos-pup-tality tent" featuring a fenced free roam area, pup-beds, pup-chairs and Pup-Peroni sampling bar.

• Booths along Federal Street featuring free pup-massages, pup-grooming stations and pup-psychic sessions, as well as assorted educational displays from pup-friendly organizations.

• Live stage where member of the KDKA-TV news team will host a puppy beauty pageant, "Do you look like your dog?" and fetching contests.

• Free photos of your pup riding alongside a Pirates mascot in a Vespa side-car.

• Raffle for exclusive pup-friendly items with proceeds to benefit Animal Friends.

INGAME: Once inside the ballpark, fans can enjoy the Pirates game with their dogs on the Southwest Flight Deck located underneath the left field scoreboard. All pups in attendance will receive Pup-Peroni dog snacks, a Pup-Peroni bandana, Del-Monte coupons and a Pirates pup-chewing toy.

TICKETS: A limited number of general admission tickets are available at a cost of $20 per person. One dog per person will be allowed. On behalf of Pup-Peroni dog snacks, the Pirates will donate $5 from each ticket to Animal Friends to help assist in the creation of local off-leash parks and other pup-friendly activities.

TREND: While this is the first Pup-Night at PNC Park, the Pirates are part of a growing trend among Major League Baseball® clubs who have hosted similar events to benefit various animal causes, according to Tim Schuldt, Pirates Vice President of Marketing, Sales and Broadcasting.
"PNC Park boasts a family friendly atmosphere. To many of our fans, their dogs are extensions of their immediate family. This will give those fans a chance to have a fun time at the ballpark with their dogs without disturbing the experience for the rest of our fans," Schuldt said. "We are pleased to partner with Del-Monte to bring this event to our fans. It has been proven over the years to be a popular event at other Major League Baseball ballparks and a great way to raise funds and awareness for pup-friendly related causes."

DETAILS: The Pirates have considered all aspects of holding such an event, Schuldt added. Noting the set up both inside and outside the ballpark will feature plenty of water troughs, sod areas, and bags for pet owners to clean up after their dogs. Dogs must also be able to follow a code of conduct, be in good health, be up to date with all required vaccinations and be people and pup-friendly.
