The Pittsburgh Pirates today placed righthanded pitcher Matt Capps on the 15-day disabled list with bursitis in his right shoulder and internal rotation deficit. To take Capps' place on the 25-man active roster the club has recalled outfielder Steve Pearce from Triple-A Indianapolis . The announcement was made by Pirates Senior Vice President, General Manager Neal Huntington.
The 24-year-old Capps is expected to be on the disabled list for approximately eight weeks. He will begin with a rehab progam and then return to a throwing and pitching program.
Pearce hit .259 (78-for-301) with 23 doubles, 11 home runs and 50 RBI in 79 games this year with Indianapolis. He is expected to join the team tonight in Cincinnati.
