The Pittsburgh Pirates announced today a series of fan-friendly initiatives for their season ticket holders in 2009. These initiatives include: (1) freezing the price of full, half and 20-game season ticket packages for the 2009 season, (2) introducing four new value-priced full season plans and (3) offering an extended payment plan for all renewing and new season ticket holders.

It will be the seventh consecutive season without a price increase for Pirates season ticket holders, the longest current stretch of any Major League Baseball team.

"We do not take the support of our season ticket holders for granted. We understand that we are all facing tough economic times and, as a result, we chose not to increase our season ticket prices for full season, forty- and twenty-game season ticket plans," said Pirates President Frank Coonelly.

"Furthermore, we made the decision to offer four new value-priced full season plans and the extended payment plan in an effort to make Pirates baseball even more affordable during these difficult times."

The four new value-priced full season plans are priced substantially less than plans in the same seating locations in 2008. The new value plans will allow more Pirates fans to become full season tickets holders and enjoy the many benefits that come with being a full season ticket holder. The plans are as follows:

  • $399 full season plan in the Left, Right and Outfield Grandstands (Sections 301-308 and 325- 333). At less than $5 per game, this plan has been created to provide value for families while providing a great view of the game.
  • $599 full season plan in the Bleacher Reserved (Sections 133-138). At $7.40 per game, this package allows fans to sit field level in Left Field at significant savings.
  • $799 full season plan in the Infield Grandstand (Sections 309-323). At less than $10 per game, these seats overlook the infield and will provide great views of the game, skyline and post-game fireworks.
  • $999 in the Outfield Box (Sections 101-103, 129-132). At $12.33 per game, these field-level seats are located down the left and right field lines. The value-priced packages cover 13,927 seats, which is more than 36-percent of the capacity of PNC Park, and reflect an average savings of more than 25-percent than the cost of the same packages last season.

"We want to ensure that we continue to offer the most affordable, fan- and family-friendly experiences in all of professional sports," said Coonelly. "On the field, we are extremely excited about the foundation that is being built and look forward to our players' growth as we continue to execute our plan to return this organization to prominence."

The new extended payment plan has been introduced based on extensive season ticket holder feedback. It gives any fan renewing or purchasing a new season plan the ability to pay over an extended period of time without being charged interest.

In addition, the Pirates have restructured their sales department to provide a higher quality of service by assigning each ticket holder a dedicated representative they can contact directly for any of their needs. The club is also increasing the number of special events on and off the field at PNC Park as well as opportunities to interact with its leadership team, coaches and players.

Full and partial season ticket packages are now on sale. Fans should visit or call 1- 800-BUY-BUCS to purchase season tickets or for more information.

Individual game tickets will go on sale Saturday, February 21 at 10 a.m. More information regarding the on sale event and individual game ticket prices will be announced at a later date.
