The Pittsburgh Pirates today agreed to terms with outfielder Evan Chambers, the club's third round selection in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft.

Evan hit .324 (61-for-188) with 13 doubles, 11 home runs, 39 RBI and 27 stolen bases in 49 games this season for Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Florida.

Chambers began his collegiate career at the University of Florida, but transferred to Hillsborough Community College after the 2008 season, making him eligible for the draft after two years. Evan also hit seven homers in the New England Collegiate League with Keene (NH) last summer.

Pittsburgh also agreed to terms with shortstop John Gourley, the club's 13th round selection in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft.

John compiled a .477 batting average with 42 hits, four home runs and 23 RBI in 88 at bats as a senior this year at Eastern Wayne High School in Goldsboro, NC. He also helped lead his team to the 2008 conference championship crown. During his high school career, Gourley was also an All-ECC and all-area performer as a sophomore and junior. As a sophomore, he led the Warriors in runs scored (27) and stolen bases (15), while hitting .314 with a .465 on-base percentage. He also led the squad in runs scored (39) and stolen bases (20) as a junior and holds the team record with 57 career stolen bases.

The Pirates also agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Ryan Beckman, the club's 18th round selection in this year's draft.

Beckman went 4-1 with two saves in 19 games as a freshman this year at Grayson County College (TX), where he pitched a total of 29.2 innings.

The Pirates have now agreed to terms with 15 of their 51 selections from this year's draft.

Minor League News And Notes

Altoona: The Eastern League announced today that three Altoona Curve players have been selected to the Eastern League All-Star squad. Left-handed pitcher Daniel Moskos, shortstop Brian Friday, and outfielder/first baseman Jason Delaney were all selected to the Eastern League Southern Division Team

Moskos, who was Pittsburgh's first-round selection in the 2007 draft, is currently 4-6 with a 3.98 ERA in 15 games (14 starts)...He has worked at least 5.0 innings or more in his last 13 starts.

Friday was Pittsburgh's third-round selection in the 2007 draft. He is currently hitting .259 with five home runs and 17 RBI.

Delaney, who was Pittsburgh's 12th-round selection in the 2005 draft, hit .286 last month while knocking in 16 runs in 28 games.
