The Pittsbugh Pirates today signed outfielder Mel Rojas Jr., the club's third round selection in the 2010 First-Year Player
Draft.
Rojas hit .398 with 19 doubles, 10 triples, 12 home runs, 71 RBI and 94 runs scored as a freshman this year for Wabash
Valley Community College, which won the Region 24 title after finishing the season with a 50-12 record. Rojas also led the
nation with 61 stolen bases in 64 attempts while being named the 2010 Great Rivers Athletic Conference Freshman-of-the-
Year. He will begin his professional career with the State College Spikes of the New York-Penn League.
