|
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates today agreed to terms with left-handed pitcher Donnie Veal on a minor league contract
with an invitation to Spring Training.
Veal went 3-2 with a 4.35 ERA (49.2ip/24er) and 41 strikeouts in nine starts this year for Triple-A Indianapolis
before having season-ending "Tommy John" surgery on June 4.
The 26-year-old Veal was selected by the Pirates off the Chicago Cubs' Triple-A Iowa roster in the Rule Five
Draft on December 11, 2008. He made a total of 19 relief appearances in 2009 with Pittsburgh, going 1-0
with a 7.16 ERA (16.1ip/13er).
The Pirates now have a total of seven non-roster invitees for Spring Training.
