The Pittsburgh Pirates today acquired minor league infielder/outfielder Corey Wimberly from the Oakland organization in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Ryan Kelly. The announcement was made by Kyle Stark, Pirates' Director of Player Development.

Wimberly hit .284 (151-for-531) with 14 doubles, seven triples, three home runs, 57 RBI, 97 runs scored and 56 stolen bases while spending the entire 2010 season with Triple-A Sacramento. He ranked first in the Pacific Coast League in stolen bases, tied for second in runs scored and third in at-bats. Wimberly's 56 stolen bases also ranked tied for fifth in all of minor league baseball. The 27-year-old Wimberly was originally selected by Colorado in the sixth round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft before being acquired by the A's in 2009. Since making his professional debut in 2005, the switch-hitting Wimberly has compiled a .302 career average (668-for-2215) with 72 doubles, 17 triples, 10 home runs, 191 RBI, 412 runs scored and 259 stolen bases.
