The Pittsburgh Pirates announced today the details of their 2011 promotional schedule and their 2011 individual
game ticket pricing. One of the major promotional highlights in 2011 will be the 40th Anniversary celebration of the
1971 World Series championship team as the Pirates host their 1971 World Series opponent, the Baltimore Orioles
from Monday, June 20 through Wednesday, June 22.
The 2011 promotional schedule also includes items such as an Andrew McCutchen action figurine on Saturday,
April 23 when the Pirates battle the Washington Nationals, a Neil Walker bobblehead on Saturday, May 21, when
the Pirates take on the Detroit Tigers, and a kids Pedro Alvarez replica batting practice jersey on Sunday, June 5,
as part of the Philadelphia Phillies' lone visit to PNC Park in 2011.
The promotional schedule will feature the extremely popular three-game "Skyblast" series which encompasses
a spectacular Zambelli Fireworks show and a live concert by a popular band after each Pirates game. The dates
and performers are as follows:
• Skyblast I on Saturday, June 11, will feature a soon to be announced performing artist after the Pirates take
on the New York Mets.
• Platinum selling recording artist .38 Special will be the feature for Skyblast II on Saturday, July 9 after the
Pirates take on the Chicago Cubs.
• Skyblast III will feature live music from two-time Grammy Award winning band Train on Saturday, August 6
after the Pirates battle the San Diego Padres.
In addition to the "Skyblast" concert and fireworks series, on Saturday, September 24, the Pirates will host the
new "FAN JAM" featuring the Steve Miller Band performing live following the Pirates matchup against the Cincinnati
Reds.
The Pirates also announced another new promotion called "Free-Shirt Fridays" which will feature a different
Pirates themed t-shirt giveaway at all 13 Pirates Friday home games this season. "Free Shirt Fridays" will also
feature a tailgate with live music on Federal Street prior to the game.
Having already announced that season ticket prices would remain flat for the ninth consecutive year, the Pirates
today also announced that the Club will again freeze the price of all advanced game tickets for the ninth straight
season and will offer special kids-priced tickets for the second consecutive year.
The Pirates also announced that they will introduce Day of Game pricing for 2011. Day of Game pricing, which is
common throughout baseball and other professional sports, will not affect season ticket buyers, group ticket buyers
or individual ticket buyers who purchase their tickets prior to the day of the game. Advanced tickets, which include
all tickets purchased prior to 12:01 am on the day of a home game, will be priced between $2 to $5 per ticket less
than the Day of Game price.
"Pirates baseball is one of the most affordable, fan- and family-friendly experiences in all of professional sports.
This is the ninth straight season we have not increased our advanced individual ticket prices. As a result, our
average ticket price in 2010 was the third lowest in all of MLB according to Team Marketing Report, and our flat
pricing again in 2011 will move the Pirates even further below the industry's average," said Pirates President Frank
Coonelly. "During the nine years of our flat pricing, the average increase in ticket prices across the league was
more than 4.5-percent per season. Our tickets, that are 42-percent below the League average, are not competitively
priced. While we know that our market will support a competitive ticket price, we did not think that this was the right
year to begin to move our pricing toward the industry's average."
Fans can again purchase tickets for children 14 and younger at a reduced rate in specific sections of PNC Park
with the purchase of a regularly priced ticket in the same section. Sections eligible for kids pricing include the
Infield Grandstand, Bleacher Reserved and Left and Right Field Grandstand seats.
Individual game tickets will go on sale Saturday, January 29 at 10:00 a.m. at PirateFest, the PNC Park Main Box
Office, online at pirates.com or by calling 1-877-893-2827.
