Help the Pirates and Central Blood Bank reach 500 units
|
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates and Central Blood Bank have a lofty goal for their June blood drive: they are hoping to collect 500 units of blood.
The June drive will be held Monday through Wednesday, June 27, 28, and 29, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. all
three days. The drive is in the press conference room at PNC Park. Limited free parking for the Pirates
blood drive will be available in the Red Lot 6, across the street from the press entrance.
The June drive is the third of the 2011 season. There will be special prizes for the 500th donor of both
the season and the drive. The 500th donor of the season wins an autographed Pirates jersey. The 500th
donor of the June drive wins $500 in American Express gift cards.
And most importantly, the units collected will help save up to 1,500 lives in the Pittsburgh area, because
each whole blood donation can be separated into its three components and transfused to three separate
patients.
All participating donors at the June drive will receive a pair of tickets to an upcoming Pirates game at PNC
Park. In addition, Pirates alumni Grant Jackson will be on hand on Monday, June 27 from noon to 2 p.m.
to take photos and sign free autographs for donors.
All donors will be automatically entered into a random drawing to win a trip to Phoenix, Arizona to watch
the best in baseball from each league battle each other at Chase Field in July. The prize includes tickets to
the festivities, four-day, three-night accommodation at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess and round-trip
airfare from Pittsburgh to Phoenix.
The final 2011 Pirates Blood Drive will be held August 29-30. If you donate at three of the four Pirates
drives this season, you will be a Major League Lifesaver and be eligible for additional prizes!
