The Pittsburgh Pirates agreed to terms with the following player from this year's draft.
Jordan Cooper (23rd round - RHP): Was also drafted by the Pirates in the 17th round of the 2009 draft...Was one of five University of Kentucky players to be drafted in the first 30 rounds...Went 3-2 with one save and a 4.61 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 14 appearances (12 starts) in 2011...Was UK's Opening Day starter in 2011...Was the No. one high school pitching prospect and fifth-best prospect overall in the state of Tennessee along with being rated as the 81st-best high school prospect in the nation by Baseball America.
The Pirates also today acquired right-handed pitcher Steven Jackson from the Reds organization for a player to be named. Jackson began the year in the Dodgers organization before being released on May 17. After signing a minor league deal with Cincinnati on May 23, he went 0-0 with one save and a 5.59 ERA
