Michaels, Rivas join free-agent pool

Pirates hopeful to re-sign outfielder after abbreviated stint

Outfielder Jason Michaels and infielder Luis Rivas became the latest two Pirates to file for free agency on Friday.

The Pirates have already indicated that they would like to bring back Michaels, who did not have his $2.6 million option picked up by the club.

After parting ways with the Indians in May, the 32-year-old Michaels played 102 games for the Pirates and batted .228 with eight homers and 44 RBIs.

In 79 games for the Pirates, Rivas batted .218 with three homers and 20 RBIs.
