Pirates tab Lajoie as senior advisor
Former Tigers GM to assist in scouting and roster moves
By Jenifer Langosch / MLB.com
Lajoie brings 56 years of professional baseball experience with him to the post. He most recently spent three seasons as a senior advisor in the Dodgers' front office. He held that same role with the Red Sox from 2002-05, and with the Brewers from 2001-02.
After a brief Minor League career, Lajoie was hired as a scout by the Reds in 1965. He remained with Cincinnati for three years before beginning a 23-year stint with the Tigers' organization. Lajoie was initially hired on as a scout, but would also serve as a Minor League manager, the coordinator of scouting, the director of player procurement, an assistant general manager and as the club's GM for seven seasons, beginning in 1984.
Lajoie's work in the Majors also included 10 years with the Braves, where Lajoie worked as a special assignment scout and as a special assistant to the GM from 1991-2000.
Lajoie will be the second member of Huntington's staff to serve as a senior advisor. Former Pirates manager Chuck Tanner was hired prior to the 2008 season to work in the same capacity.
