Beyond the additions of Veras and Toregas, Pittsburgh also invited catcher Tony Sanchez, infielders Chase d'Arnaud and Brian Friday, as well as outfielders Eric Fryer and Andrew Lambo to attend Spring Training with the big league club.
As things currently stand, the Pirates will have 22 non-roster players in camp this spring.
Veras, 30, went 3-3 with a 3.75 ERA over 48 relief appearances with the Marlins last season. He also posted a 1-1 record with a 4.60 ERA over 24 games for Triple-A New Orleans. Overall, Veras had a 4.24 ERA over 176 career games spanning parts of five seasons, during which he had stints with the Yankees, Indians and Marlins.
The 28-year-old Toregas opened last season as a part of the Indians' 40-man roster, but he spent the entire year in Cleveland's farm system. Between tours with Class A Mahoning Valley, Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus, Toregas hit .227 with five home runs and 14 RBIs over 38 games. He appeared in 19 games for the Tribe in 2009.
