McCutchen won the honor after hitting a blistering .517 (15-for-29) with three homers, nine RBIs and 11 runs scored in seven games. Along with notching four three-hit games in that seven-game span, he led all Major Leaguers in average, runs and total bases (27).
After starting the week with a four-hit game in an 11-2 Pirates win over the Astros, McCutchen rolled through the week and produced a fitting end to an impressive first half with a three-hit, two-homer game Sunday against the Giants.
The 25-year-old's dominant performances helped guide the Pirates to a 6-1 record and raised his average at the All-Star break to a Major League-best .362. He also finished the first half tied for fourth in the NL in homers (18) and third in RBIs (60).
Just last week, McCutchen was named the National League Player of the Month for June.
