McCutchen again named NL Player of the Month
By Paul Casella / MLB.com
McCutchen torched his way through July, hitting .446 (41-for-92) with seven homers, 15 RBIs and 22 runs scored. Those numbers come one month after he garnered June honors by hitting .370 with seven dingers and 26 RBIs.
Not only is McCutchen the first Bucs player since Bobby Bonilla to win the award twice in a season, he's also the first player on any team to win it in back-to-back months since the Phillies' Ryan Howard in 2006.
The July honor is just the latest accolade this season for McCutchen, who signed a six-year contract extension and also made his second All-Star appearance last month in Kansas City.
The 25-year-old enters play Thursday with a Major League-best .373 average, and is also tied for third in the NL with 22 home runs.
