Pirates Sign Pitcher Kyle Farnsworth To Minor League Contract

The Pirates have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Kyle Farnsworth on a minor league deal. Farnsworth has been assigned to Triple-A Indianapolis.
The 37-year-old Farnsworth went 2-0 with a 5.76 ERA (29.2ip/19er) and 19 strikeouts in 39 relief appearances with Tampa Bay this season before designated for assignment and released on August 9.
Farnsworth was originally selected by the Cubs in the 47th round of the 1994 First-Year Player Draft. Since breaking into the big leagues in 1999, he has played for the Chicago Cubs (1999-2004), Detroit (2005 and 2008), Atlanta (2005 and 2010), the New York Yankees (2006-08), Kansas City (2009-10) and Tampa Bay (2011-13).
He also ranks third among active pitchers with 849 games in the big leagues behind Mariano Rivera (1098) and LaTroy Hawkins (925).
He is 42-62 with 52 saves, a 4.29 ERA (951.1ip/453er) and 936 strikeouts in 849 games (26 starts) during his Major League career.
