Bucs lose challenge before Rockies win replay review

PITTSBURGH -- The Pirates lost a challenge in the fifth inning of Friday night's 4-2 win, while the Rockies won a challenge in the eighth.

Colorado's Corey Dickerson stole second base on a close play, but Pirates manager Clint Hurdle decided to call for a replay review. Dickerson was called safe on the field, beating catcher Russell Martin's throw and Neil Walker's tag, and the play stood as called. However, on the next pitch after the review, Francisco Liriano struck out Carlos Gonzalez to end the inning.

Liriano had a shaky first two innings, but Dickerson was the only baserunner he allowed since the second inning.

The Rockies, on the other hand, won a replay challenge in the bottom of the eighth, when the Pirates' Gregory Polanco was called safe at first base after he hit a grounder to Rockies' shortstop Troy Tulowitzki. After manager Walt Weiss called the challenge, the replay review led to the call getting overturned to end the inning.
