No team wants to lose three straight heading into the All-Star break, and it helps to have a pitcher like the Mets' Pedro Martinez to start in the first-half finale. Pedro proved to be just what the doctor ordered.

The Pirates entered Sunday with designs on securing a series sweep of the Mets, but even the most optimistic of the Bucs knew that Pedro Martinez could prove a formidable obstacle toward that goal. He did, and the Bucs were turned back.
