The Pirates had grown accustomed to getting impeccable starting pitching during the current homestand. Their rotation had gone 4-0 with an 0.64 ERA through the first four games. But the starters were roughed up in the past two games by the Reds, with Paul Maholm enduring his worst outing of the season in Sunday's loss. The lefty lasted just four innings.
