Wednesday, November 4
Pirates Chairman of the Board Bob Nutting will participate in a discussion about the business of sports at West Virginia University. Joining Mr. Nutting will be Ken Kendrick, Managing General Partner of the Arizona Diamondbacks and former athletes Oliver Luck and Sam Huff. Luck is a two-time Academic All-American who led the Mountaineers to a 1981 Peach Bowl victory. Huff is a former NFL star who played for the New York Giants and the Washington Redskins. The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Erickson Alumni Center, and is free and open to the public.


Tuesday, November 10
Pirates Manager of Diversity Initiatives Chaz Kellem will give a motivational talk regarding the abilities of people with disabilities & and his current role with Pirates at 11:00 a.m. at Life's Work of Western PA.


Monday, November 23

The Greater Pittsburgh Council of the Boy Scouts of America, along with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, will collect canned food and non-perishable food items prior to the Pirates' Home Opener as part of their annual Scouting for Food program. This is the second year for this event and the Myron Cope Legend in Sports Award will be presented to former Steeler John Banaszak. The dinner benefits a variety of non-profit groups including the Leader Dog for the Blind Organization, and Blind and Vision Rehabilitation Services.

Ian Snell will continue his partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters, hosting two matches at the ballpark at 3:00 p.m. Ian's matches will have a private meet & greet with him, an exclusive tour of PNC Park, the chance to go on the field to run the bases and play catch. They also get to enjoy Pirates batting practice from the dugout. Littles will received special shirts, letting them and everyone who sees them know that Ian is their "Honorary Big Brother."


Wednesday, May 13
Paul and Jessica Maholm will host their Gilda's Club Livestrong Day group at the ballpark. Paul will catch the honorary first pitch from a member of their Gilda's Club group before the game.


Friday, May 15

Former Pirate Dick Groat will be honored at the 2009 Spirit of Hope Reception & Auction benefitting the Nellie Briles Fund of AdelphoiUSA at the Latrobe Country Club from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Groat will receive the 2009 Arnold Palmer Spirit of Hope Award that is presented to individuals in recognition of their positive impact on youth.

Pirates fans will have the opportunity to support the many programs and efforts of Pirates Charities by bidding on unique baseball and sports memorabilia during an in-park silent auction. The auction booth will be located in front of Guest Relations in section 117, and will begin when the gates open and conclude at the end of the 7th inning.


Tuesday, June 30
Pirates Charities, in partnership with FSN Pittsburgh, will hold the second Pirates Charities on FSN Auction on Tuesday, June 30, when the Pirates take on the Chicago Cubs at 7:05 p.m. Broadcast live from the Trip Total Media Hall of Fame Club, the auction will feature once-in-a-lifetime experiences like a VIP trip to Pirates Spring Training in Bradenton, FL; an opportunity to go backstage with FSN; and the chance for you and three (3) friends to BE the Pirates Pierogies and run in the actual on-field race during a Pirates' regular season home game. The auction will again offer fans the purchase of VIP bags, which will include an autographed item, game tickets, valuable coupons, and, in some cases, premium incentives.

The Pirates Baseball Tomorrow Fund equipment drive and on-field check presentation will take place. Fans can donate baseball equipment before the game on Federal Street to the Carrolltown Little League, who will also be presented with a $5,000 grant.

Pirates president Frank Coonelly and his wife, Debbie, manager John Russell and his wife, Jamie, pitcher Matt Capps and The Pirate Parrot will visit the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf. The kids will participate in a Q&A session and then receive autographs and take photos.


Saturday, July 18
Ross Ohlendorf will be signing free autographs for fans at the new Pine Township Giant Eagle, 155 Towne Center Drive, Wexford, PA from noon to 1 p.m.

Miracle League Day at the ballpark. Over 200 members of the new Miracle League of Southwestern, PA will be in attendance at the game and a special pre-game video honoring the members will be displayed on the videoboard.

Zach Duke and Paul Maholm will be attending a charity fundraiser called "Where there's a Will..." at the Firehouse Lounge in the Strip. This event will raise funds for Neurofibromatosis (NF) Clinics Association, Inc. which is a local, non-profit organization dedicated to serving people with NF and their families. The NFCA acts as an information resource for health care professionals, patients and the general public. The event runs from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. and will also include a live and silent auction. Zach and Kristin Duke will host kids from the Pittsburgh Project at PNC Park – Pirates pitcher Zach Duke and his wife Kristin are inviting kids from the Pittsburgh Project to join them at PNC Park for a Pirates' baseball game. Since Zach's number is 57, he and Kristin have selected five (5) dates for these special events, with seven (7) kids coming to each game. The Pittsburgh Project is a Northside-based nonprofit community development organization with a 23-year track record of developing leaders and serving the city's most vulnerable residents. On each date, the seven (7) kids will come to the ballpark early, spend time with Zach and Kristin, watch bp and meet other Pirates players. Zach and Kristin are also providing each child with complimentary concession vouchers. Kids with strong academic performance and demonstrating good behavior are selected for this unique opportunity.

The Pirates Wives are hosting the Homeless Children's Initiative to a Build-A-Bear Workshop at Ross Park Mall. 20 children will build bears and eat a lunch of Pizza Villa, which all is courtesy of the wives.


Tuesday, August 18
Andy LaRoche will host children with Down Syndrome at the ballpark. Two children will come to the ballpark early to go on the field, watch batting practice, meet players and get autographs. Each child also receives complimentary concession coupons, a Pirates' goodie bag and stay for the game as guests of the ballclub.


Thursday, August 20
The 4th annual Pirates Charities Golf Classic, presented by West Penn Allegheny Health System, will be held on Thursday, August 20th at the renowned Fox Chapel Golf Club. There, participants will have the unique opportunity to spend the day with current and former Pirates players, broadcasters, and front office executives while supporting the many and varied efforts of Pirates Charities. Saturday, August 22
Pirates fans will have the opportunity to support the many programs and efforts of Pirates Charities by bidding on unique baseball and sports memorabilia during an in-park silent auction. The auction booth will be located in front of Guest Relations in section 117, and will begin when the gates open and conclude at the end of the 7th inning.

Andy LaRoche and the Pirate Parrot will Appear at Autism Family Field Day 2009 at the Pirates Charities Miracle League Field - located in Cranberry Township. The event is from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., and Andy and the Parrot will arrive at 11:00 a.m. This event was created by the Autism Help Network to provide an event for the entire family to enjoy. Pirates closer Matt Capps will be at the McIntyre Square Giant Eagle to sign autographs for fans from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon.

Lastings Milledge will participate in a Q&A session with the little leaguers of the Josh Gibson Little League at Gibson Field in the Hill District beginning at 11:30 a.m.

The Pirates will host more than 250 children from The Pittsburgh Project at PNC Park for "The Pittsburgh Project Day". Zach and Kristen Duke will be recognized pregame on the field for the work they do with The Pittsburgh Project throughout the season.

Zach and Kristin Duke will host kids from the Pittsburgh Project at PNC Park – Pirates pitcher Zach Duke and his wife Kristin are inviting kids from the Pittsburgh Project to join them at PNC Park for a Pirates' baseball game. Since Zach's number is 57, he and Kristin have selected five (5) dates for these special events, with seven (7) kids coming to each game. "65 Roses Club" pregame reception - "65 Roses" Club members contribute to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation based on the number of Pirates homeruns. The private pregame reception will be held in the PNC Park Press Conference Room. Pirates broadcasters Greg Brown and Steve Blass, as well as Pirates players will be in attendance.

Pirates Charities will host an on-field check presentation to provide the Alzheimer's Association of Greater PA the proceeds of Fabulous Casino Night, which took place on August 9 and was hosted by John and Jamie Russell.

Friday, September 4
The Pirates Wives organization will host a "Mystery Grab Bag" fundraiser on Friday, September 4th throughout the game between the Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals. They will have a booth on the main concourse by Guest Relations. The event will benefit Pirates Charities and the West Penn Hospital Burn Center Summer Camp for Burned Children. The baseballs will be individually autographed by former and current Pirates players, as well as other former and current Major League stars. For $50, fans can select and purchase a "mystery" bag containing one individually autographed baseball. All bags will look exactly alike and be unmarked, so fans won't know whose autograph is on the baseball until after their purchase has been made.

The Pirates will host Clemente Day. Fans are invited to donate in a variety of ways, Paul Maholm will receive the Pirates Clemente Award and several Pirates Minor League players will be honored during a pre-game ceremony for their work in the Pirates Community Commitment program.

Pirates Charities and Pirates President Frank Coonelly will present the Pittsburgh RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner-cities) with a check for $65,000 during an on-field pregame celebration.

A Pirates special guest and the Pirate Parrot will be involved in a story time prior to the game at PNC Park for the 150 Pirates Tales lucky winners.

Pirates Chairman of the Board Bob Nutting will participate in a discussion about the business of sports at West Virginia University. Joining Mr. Nutting will be Ken Kendrick, Managing General Partner of the Arizona Diamondbacks and former athletes Oliver Luck and Sam Huff. Luck is a two-time Academic All-American who led the Mountaineers to a 1981 Peach Bowl victory. Huff is a former NFL star who played for the New York Giants and the Washington Redskins. The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Erickson Alumni Center, and is free and open to the public.
