2009 Pittsburgh Pirates Awareness Series

On Tuesday June 30th, the Pirates and FSN Pittsburgh hosted the second Pirates Charities On FSN Auction.

Through the strong support of Pirates fans throughout the country, the auction raised $76,100 and received more than 500 bids from 18 states from as far away as California, Arizona and New Mexico. The total raised surpassed last year's inaugural event ($75,000).

All proceeds will be used to benefit local area youth through Pirates Charities' many programs and initiatives.

"The incredible success of the auction in these difficult economic times demonstrates again the remarkable generosity and compassion of Pittsburghers and Pirate fans everywhere," said Pirates president Frank Coonelly. "On behalf of the Pirates organization, I want to thank FSN for devoting its airtime, talent and endless energy to make this auction one of our largest fundraisers. And, of course, I would like to thank our great fans for their generosity and confidence in the work that we are doing in the community through Pirates Charities."

FSN's Rob King and Paul Alexander hosted the on-air auction live from the Trib Total Media Hall of Fame Club inside PNC Park. During FSN's game telecast, fans had the opportunity to bid on eight featured premium experiences which include items such as a private pitching session with Pirates pitcher Paul Maholm and Pitching Coach Joe Kerrigan, a VIP trip to Pirates Spring Training in beautiful Bradenton, Florida and an all-access backstage tour with FSN during a Pirates telecast.

"The Pirates Charities auction on FSN is something that generates a great deal of pride for all of us at FSN," said Ted Black, Senior Vice President and General Manager of FSN. "The Pirates are a first-class organization that gives back so much to our community. In just two years, the auction has become the model that other teams and sports networks are looking to emulate."
