Education Days

Education DaysPirates Charities, PPG Industries Foundation, Trib Total Media and Great American Opportunities have partnered to underwrite the cost of the student workbook used in the Pirates "Education Days" program.

"Education Days" is in its third season, and more than 7,000 students have participated in the program so far! With the assistance of Kittanning Middle School and Great American Opportunities, the program was initially developed as an educational lesson plan revolving around a Pirates baseball game at PNC Park. The lesson plan encompasses subjects such as history, math and geography for students in grades 6 - 8 throughout our region.

Eligible students come to PNC Park to attend a Pirates home day game on designated dates.

While at the ballpark, and before the game, students participate in a "treasure hunt" where they look for answers to questions in the specially designed workbook. The Pirates "Education Days" program is certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

The 2008 "Education Days" dates are Thursday, May 8 (12:35 p.m. vs. the SF Giants), Monday, May 12 (12:35 p.m. vs. the Atlanta Braves) and Thursday, September 18 (12:35 p.m. vs. the LA Dodgers).

Pirates Charities wishes to thank our underwriting partners for their generous support of this educational (and fun) initiative! For information on how your school can participate, please contact the Pirates at 1.800.BUY.BUCS.
