Pirates Charities Golf Classic Pirates Charities Golf Classic

The fourth annual Pirates Charities Golf Classic, presented by West Penn Allegheny Health System, took place on Thursday, August 20th at the renowned Fox Chapel Golf Club. There, participants had the unique opportunity to spend the day playing golf with current and former Pirates players, broadcasters, and front office executives while supporting the many and varied efforts of Pirates Charities. Pirates President Frank Coonelly was joined by Dr. Christopher T. Olivia, President and CEO of West Penn Allegheny Health System, as the tournament co-chair.

Registration and lunch started at 10:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 12:30 pm; a dinner and awards presentation followed the day's events. In all, the Golf Classic netted over $100,000 again this year, bringing the total to over $200,000 raised during the past two tournaments.

The funds are used to support Pirates Charities projects such as the renovation of the Josh Gibson Field in Pittsburgh's Hill District, the construction of the Pirates Charities Miracle League Field in Cranberry Township, PA, and the local RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) youth outreach program.

Check back during the 2010 season for details on the fifth annual golf classic!
