The Pirates community purpose is to make a tangible difference in the lives of the citizens of the region by improving the quality of life, being an active and contributing member of our community, and thereby becoming a source of civic pride.
Pirates Charities Fields for Kids Program
The Pirates Charities Fields for Kids program provides financial support to improve youth baseball and/or softball facilities via matching grants to nonprofit organizations and local government units that operate baseball and/or softball programs. The program is open to any independent nonprofit tax-exempt organization, school or local government unit that operates youth baseball and/or softball programs within the Pittsburgh Pirates market area.

Pirates Community Commitment Program
In 2007, the Pittsburgh Pirates launched a player initiative called the "Pirates Community Commitment Program," which will help players at all levels in the Pirates system increase awareness of their positions within the community. The goal of the program, unlike any other in Major League Baseball, is to help players better understand the personal and professional growth opportunities associated with community service and how they are viewed as role models and potential leaders. Baseball and the Bucs make pitch to "Go Green"
Throughout its rich history, baseball's greatest moments have been played out on its lush fields of green. Now thanks to an unprecedented partnership, the national pastime is embracing the color green in a whole new way. Read more »The Pirates "Let's Go Bucs. Let's Go Green" program integrates greening initiatives, sustainable business practices and educational outreach. The program's is a dedicated effort by the Pirates and PNC Park partners CB Richard Ellis, ARAMARK and Levy Restaurants to be more environmentally conscious in their collective efforts to go green moving forward.
