Pirates Charities is pleased to partner with Baseball Fantasy Camp for Kids, a nonprofit organization providing special needs youth with the opportunity to learn baseball fundamentals from professional coaches and players.
Since 2010, Pirates Charities has invited youth from several local Miracle League programs to spend the day with Pirates players and coaches practicing baseball skills. The participants receive personalized Pirates jerseys and are treated to a catered lunch during the clinics. Best of all, they have the opportunity to meet and learn from their baseball heroes and have fun playing the game of baseball with friends and family.
Currently, youth from four local Miracle League programs participate in the annual Fantasy Camp which has been hosted by a different Miracle League group each year. These include the Miracle Leagues of the South Hills, Southwestern Pennsylvania, The Ohio Valley and Western Pennsylvania.
On Saturday, July 7, 2012 Pirates players and coaches took part in the third annual Miracle League Fantasy Baseball Camp for Miracle League players at the Pirates Charities Miracle League Field of the South Hills sponsored by the Baseball Fantasy Camp for Kids Organization. The participants rotated thru five stations and each player learned fundamentals from Pirates such as manager Clint Hurdle, coach Jeff Banister, and players Casey McGehee, Michael McKenry and Jared Hughes.
