The Pittsburgh Pirates and Pirates Charities, in conjunction with ROOT SPORTS, hosted the sixth annual "Pirates Charities on ROOT SPORTS Auction" inside the Rivertowne Brewing Hall of Fame Club at PNC Park on July 9.

The effort raised more than $400,000 for Pirates Charities and the seven Miracle League programs the ballclub's philanthropic arm supports. Those are located in Wheeling, West Virginia; Bradenton, Florida; and Altoona, Cranberry, Indiana, Murrysville and South Hills in Western Pennsylvania. On July 2, Pirates Charities pledged $150,000 toward the construction of the Pirates Charities Miracle League Field of Indiana County, which is currently underway on the grounds of the YMCA of Indiana County.

During the "Pirates Charities on ROOT SPORTS Auction" seven premium items were auctioned off while the Pirates hosted the Oakland Athletics in an interleague contest that was televised on ROOT SPORTS. The total generated from those items exceeded $46,000 as a "Hockey Night with the Hurdles" was the top seller. The highly-sought item, which includes dinner and a Pittsburgh Penguins game with Pirates Manager Clint Hurdle and his wife Karla, took home the top honor for the second straight year.

Fans also purchased more than 2,245 VIP and VIP Plus bags that were filled with items such as baseballs autographed by Pirates players, Pirates baseball tickets, Andrew McCutchen bobbleheads, and additional Pirates merchandise. The bags were purchased by fans in 33 different states, plus Washington, D.C. and Canada.

The Pirates and Pirates Charities would like to thank all of the great fans who called in, or visited, the "Pirates Charities on ROOT SPORTS Auction" to help raise funds to support the efforts of the team's charitable arm.
