Coaching Career

Begins his 11th season on the White Sox coaching staff and his second as assistant hitting coach … spent the 2006-12 seasons as first base coach and 2004-05 as bench coach … underwent right knee replacement surgery on 6/18/10 and missed two months of the season … was inducted into the Baltimore Orioles Hall of Fame on 8/29/09 at Camden Yards … became the seventh White Sox great immortalized with a bronze sculpture at U.S. Cellular Field on 7/20/08 … was eligible to be on the Hall of Fame ballot for the first time in 2007 … was part of the 2006 American League All-Star coaching staff … rejoined the Sox organization as bench coach on 3/20/04 … went 1-3 as interim manager while Ozzie Guillen served a pair of two-game suspensions in 2004 (8/17-18 and 8/19-20) … worked with the Sox scouting and player development staffs in 2002.

Played 22 seasons in the Major Leagues (1980-2001), batting .289 (2,866-9,908) with 384 home runs and 1,628 RBI in 2,830 games … added 488 doubles, 1,299 runs scored while playing for the White Sox (1980-89, '96-97, 2000-01), Texas (1989-90), Oakland (1990-92), Baltimore (1993-95, '97-99, '00) and Cleveland (1999) … was named to six American League All-Star teams … his uniform no. 3 was retired by the White Sox in 1989, making him the only active player to receive the honor … ranks among the Sox career leaders in home runs (3rd, 221), RBI (4th, 981), extra-base hits (4th, 585), doubles (5th, 320), hits (6th, 1,773) and games played (t7th, 1,670) … is baseball's all-time leader among designated hitters with 1,643 games played, ranks second with 1,688 hits, third with 978 RBI and fourth with 235 home runs … is the only player to make 1,000 appearances as a designated hitter and play at least 1,000 games at another position (1,061 in the outfield) … reached double figures in home runs for 21 straight seasons from 1980-2000 … hit above .300 eight times and drove in 100-plus runs three times … at age 40 in 1999, combined to hit .312 (134-430) with 25 home runs and 103 RBI with Baltimore and Cleveland and earned a spot on the AL All-Star team … hit .324 (33-102) in 31 career postseason games … is one of seven players to appear with the Sox on three different occasions.

Community Involvement

In 2013, participated in White Sox Charities Field of Greens golf outing and attended the White Sox volunteer corps "lunch with the military" … for the second consecutive year, participated in the White Sox Charities Celebrity Bowling Classic in 2012 … among his other charitable activities, has served as a team ambassador for the Prostate Cancer Foundation … took part in the Jackie Robinson Day celebration and Negro Leagues tribute at U.S. Cellular Field in 2006.

Married to Marla … has four children: Antoinette, Britni, Harold Jr., and Courtney … was born, raised and still resides in St. Michaels (Md.), where as a Little Leaguer he attracted the attention of former White Sox owner Bill Veeck … six years later (1977), the Sox selected Baines with the first pick in the country … Veeck and then-general manager Roland Hemond traveled to Baines' home the night before the draft and signed him to a contract … every January 9 is "Harold Baines Day" in St. Michaels.
