Maddux enters his sixth season as the Texas pitching coach after being named to the position on Nov. 3, 2008…staff has posted four consecutive sub-4.00 ERA's, just the second time in Rangers history that has happened (6 straight, 1974-79)…only other teams with sub-4.00 ERA's each of last four years are Braves, Cardinals, A's, and Rays…prior to Maddux's arrival, Rangers had not compiled a sub-4.00 ERA since 1990…team's 3.94 ERA in his five-year tenure (2009-13) is third-lowest in the American League behind only Oakland (3.71) and Tampa Bay (3.72)…the 3.94 figure is club's lowest ERA over a five-year span since 1981-85 (3.92)… Rangers have finished in A.L.'s top five in ERA in three of last four seasons (2010-11-13), first time that has happened since 1978-81…in his five years leading the staff, club has posted the five lowest ERA's in the "Ballpark Era" of 1994-2013.

2013: Staff's 3.62 ERA ranked fourth in A.L., the 6th-lowest ERA in a full season in team history, lowest since 1983 (club-record 3.31)…was also lowest figure ever by a Maddux-led staff…pitchers set club records with 1309 strikeouts and a .236 opponents average with runners in scoring position… the .236 figure was best in A.L. and ranked third in MLB…bullpen set club record with a 2.89 ERA…staff issued five runs-or-less in 31 straight games from July 31-Sept. 3, longest streak by any A.L. team in the designated hitter era (since 1973)…2012: Team ERA rose to season-high 4.00 just six times all season...staff recorded franchise records with 1286 strikeouts and 47 games of 10+ K's...A.L.-leading 16 games with no walks...bullpen's 3.33 ERA was lowest since 1983 (3.23)... 2011: Team-record 19 shutouts made Rangers just seventh A.L. club since introduction of DH to reach that total (since 1973)...staff's 3.79 ERA was lowest since 1983...featured 5 starters with 13+ wins, first A.L. team to do that since 1977...2010: Staff's 3.93 ERA ranked fourth in A.L., best ranking for Texas since 1983 (1st, club-record 3.31 ERA)...ERA was -0.45 lower than 2009, one of the 10 largest year-to-year drops in club history...recorded club-record 1181 strikeouts...2009: In his first year, led a staff that saw its ERA drop nearly a full run from 2008...the 0.99 drop was the second-largest in team history...opponents' .260 average in '09 was the lowest against the Rangers since 1990 (.248)...Rangers staff tossed 11 shutouts in '09, most by Texas since 1988 (11).

Joined the Rangers after six seasons as Brewers pitching coach from 2003-08...oversaw a Brewers staff that ranked 2nd in the N.L. with a 3.85 ERA in 2008, the lowest figure by a Milwaukee club in 16 years since registering a 3.43 ERA in 1992...that '08 club secured the National League Wild Card slot...the 3.85 figure was also over a half-run lower than in 2007, as the team's staff ERA dropped in each of his last 2 seasons there...the Brewers compiled ERA's below 4.00 in two of his last four seasons...during his six seasons with the organization, Milwaukee produced the 5th-best strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.12) in the National League...Was the pitching coach for Double-A Round Rock in the Houston organization for over 2 seasons from the latter half of 2000 until 2002...his staff ranked second in the Texas League with a 4.11 ERA in 2000, year that the Express won the league championship.

Played 15 seasons in the Major Leagues with Philadelphia (1986-89), Los Angeles (1990, 1999), San Diego (1991-92), New York-NL (1993-94), Pittsburgh (1995), Boston (1995-96), Seattle (1997), Montreal (1998-99), and Houston (2000)...appeared in the playoffs with Boston in 1995, tossing 3.0 shutout innings in two games against Cleveland in the American League Division Series.

Michael Ausley Maddux...Mike and his wife, Lise, have two daughters, Makayla and an avid hunter, golfer, and fisherman... attends SMUand TCU sporting events...attends Marquette University basketball, University of Wisconsin football, and also Green Bay Packers games while in of former pitcher Greg Maddux, who currently works for the Rangers as Special Assistant to the GM...played three years at the University of Texas-El Paso...graduated from Rancho (NV) High School in 1979...for the fourth season, held a pitching clinic to raise funds for families from the local National Alopecia Areata Foundation...also hosted affected children and their families at a Rangers game.
